Tutorial Tuesday comes to us today via The Lettered Cottage. I had to post this tutorial simply because I must remember how to do this when it comes time for me to tackle this project myself.

The before from The Lettered Cottage looks vaguely familiar, hmm!?!

Now the after that is really spectacular.

Click here to see the step by step tutorial and look forward to the money you will be saving and the fantastic kitchen you will have after tackling this DIY project.

Tutorial Tuesday!

21 Jun

It is hot outside and I’m in the mood to wear breezy dresses and skirts. This skirt is perfect for a day like today.

A knock off of a not-so-affordable option from Anthropologie, this knit skirt would be perfect for a summer day. I love how she paired it with a simple tank.

Visit “Ruffles and Roses” blog for even more cute summer skirt tutorials. If you do, you will be inspired and save money on your summer wardrobe. A win, win!

Great Idea, Great Weekend!

18 Jun

A great idea to send you off to a great weekend courtesy of Muses of Megret.

Add a marble to the muffin pan to make heart-shaped cupcakes! So simple, yet genius!!

Now as far as decorating the cupcakes, these cupcakes are fabulous but I couldn’t begin to tell you how to accomplish this. Pretty to look at though.

Have a great weekend!!

Mary McDonald House Tour!

16 Jun

I am newly obsessed with Mary McDonald. She, in one hour, became my favorite designer (after I watched the first episode of Million Dollar Decorators). I had to share this clip of a house tour (click here to view) of one of the fabulous houses Mary designed. I know you will enjoy. It is a must watch!

Glad I’m not them! Million Dollar Decorators

16 Jun

Let me preface this post by saying I am in love with the show Million Dollar Decorators.

The show is a look into the dynamics of being a HIGH-end designer and it is so interesting. The show makes me happy but not for the reason you may think. I just need to say that I am so happy I am not them. The designers themselves are fabulous and I love Mary McDonald the most!! Some of the clients of the designers however are insanely dilutional and I would choke them if I were the designer. The editing on the show probably exaggerates to the extreme the clients reactions to not loving a $25,000 rug but I still die. So the show makes me happy because it makes me appreciate my simple little life with realistic people and realistic goals. To make a house more important than life itself is stupid. That’s all I’m sayin’. However I am still totally hooked on this show!!!

Tutorial Tuesday

14 Jun

Gonna start a new weekly blog featuring my favorite tutorials circling the internet that week. The tutorials may feature decor, fashion, or even great recipes. Basically anything that teaches you to make something great I want to share. I will even throw in a few of my own projects in the mix as I continue to work on my home.

So here is my first Tutorial Tuesday:

How to clean out a bulb to make vases or candle holders…

Here are examples of fabulous things made from the empty bulbs:

A totally cute mini terrarium!

A vase for single flowers or modern blades of grass!

Light bulb candle holders, so cute!

Do you have anymore “light bulb” ideas? Send them to me so we can all share!

Great Weekend Project!

12 Jun

I strolled over to “The Lettered Cottage” today and found a “must do” project. They made a sunburst mirror out of two packs of wooden shims and a simple round mirror from Hobby Lobby. All it took to put together was some liquid nails and some creativity, and bam…

A fabulous mirror. I am thinking I will most certainly have to try this project out myself. I think I will gold-leaf it though to match my decor. Click here to see more about this project as well as the rest of the  fabulous porch redo at “The Lettered Cottage”.

My Precious has Arrived!

8 Jun

Guess who showed up to surprise me last Friday, my Precious (a little “Lord of the Rings” throw back there). What I mean is my sofa is here! Finally after a month of waiting (which isn’t that bad for a custom-made sofa) my sofa finally arrived last week and I couldn’t be more pleased!

I ordered my sofa from a fabulous North Carolina furniture builder. I chose this sofa because it is extra deep (great for lounging in) but at the same time the two rows of pillows support your back if you want to sit up straight (for entertaining purposes because you can’t slouch in a LBD). I also loved the long bench cushion and elegantly rolled arms that are not too over-stuffed but not too modern.

I hand select the fabric, of which I chose two. The back, sides, and back pillows are in an intricate trellis pattern of dark taupe and cream. Complimenting the trellis pattern is a casual, yet sophisticated stripe in taupe and cream. I love how the trellis pattern is feminine and French, while the stripe has a masculine “menswear” appeal. The combination is stunning and inviting!

So here is a review of the progress so far: We went from this…

To this…

To this…

Not too shabby! Stay tuned for the budget breakdown and be amazed by just how little it took to create this look.

Glass Bottle Collections

1 Jun

Inspiration of the day, Lovely Glass Bottle Collections. Reusing pretty bottles is good for the earth and makes utilitarian necessities prettier. No more plastic, use glass instead of make your home pretty while keeping our earth pretty.

Or just display a pretty collection of glass bottle together as a lovely vignette. The blue hue of most vintage bottles add great subtle color to any space.

Leave the dirt in the bottles :) It gives them authenticity. Pick a few sprigs from your garden to bring nature inside. Set your collection in front of a window or under a lamp to see the glass sparkle.
