Old Wise Owl

30 Jan

I call Him “old” because the owl is a vintage trend come back to life. I call him “wise” because it is wise to love all things owls right now. I call him “owl” well because he is an owl. This table lamp from “Shades of Light”, is absolutely adorable and the best owl lamp I have seen. Did I say ADORABLE? See below for more cute owl stuff.

By Way of Reminder

via” Smile and Act Nice”

One of the reason I started this blog was to remind myself of all the cool design ideas that I have seen. I tend to forget some of the things I really want to try, so by way of reminder I am posting about plumber pipe curtain rods. I really want to try this look in my new house! The industrial look is really hot right now and I want to jump on the band-wagon on the cheap. There are so many other ideas for using plumbers pipe as decor, and below are just a few. The possibilities are endless!

I love this pot-rack idea from Apartment Therapy. The copper pipe might be a little more money, but so charming.I just found this bed by American Furnishings, via Desire to Inspire. The possibilities in plumber’s pipe furniture are flowing through my head now!

Simply Chic

20 Jan

Could neutrals be any hotter right now?!? I propose that they cannot! Classics are back baby and neutrals are hot. I am officially considering changing my wardrobe to strictly blacks and whites (this can include gray of course). Don’t want to do totally neutral? Well you’re in luck. A classic neutral wardrobe or decor is a perfect opportunity to really pop accessories or a pair of shoes.

2010 Golden Globes Fashion Review

19 Jan

Ok, so I have to throw in a little fashion review every once in awhile. So here is my 2010 Golden Globes Fashion review. There wasn’t a lot of exciting fashion this year. Nothing really stood out. However it was a great year for classic style, which I like. Penelope looks pretty but not fabulous. Her hair needed a root touch up for sure! I have seen this look before and this year it just isn’t original.

Again Fergie, I wanted to see something new and this Grecian look has been done too much. Been there done that.

I like the modern angles on Jennifer’s dress. I looks like it is falling off here, but still, it is a classic yet original look.

I am in love with this dress and Sofia’s new show “Modern Family”. The color of the year, gray, mixed with a touch of rich red is such an original palette! I love it.

I really disliked this look on Kate. Again this look has been over done the past few years, and the proportions on this dress look terrible on her. She is so petite and cute and the dress swallows her.

Modern lines and a great color, this dress is perfect on Maggie. She looks fabulous!

Ooyy, Tina I love ya but this is a big miss.

This dress was really great. The champagne color is right on cue with the trends and up close you see the detail of the cluster on her shoulder. It glistens and sparkles, giving just enough interest.

Nope.

I like the dress, but this the hair poofed up it looks kinda granny like.

This color looks fabulous on Sandra. I don’t think purple is going to be the new “it” color of the season like everyone is saying, but it looks great on her.

My favorite show and my favorite dress of the night. I am so glad “Glee” won and Lea looks amazing in this dress. I feel a “Fashion Icon Post” coming on.

One of the best dresses of the night on Jennifer Morrison. I love the color and the softness of all the ruffles drape perfectly.

I love Evangeline Lily and think she doesn’t get enough attention for her fashion sense. I love the modern, yet classic combination here. Sleek and simple chic.

Finally, Ashley Greene looked amazing. She has been strutting out in some great fashion recently and is my vote for the next big fashion icon on the scene.

Well there it is, for what it is worth, my Golden Globes fashion review.

Favorite Paint Color Collection

16 Jan

I’ve been looking at paint colors for my house. I found the perfect paint color palette by Serena and Lily. This palette embodies the essence of softness and serenity that is so popular right now, yet is also classic chic. You can’t go wrong with any of these colors for any room in your home, and there are just enough colors to choose from (not to many to confuse). Can’t wait to get my new house and show you what these colors look like in real life.

My Kitchen Inspiration

11 Jan

I am digging through my archive and posting all my favorite pics, room by room, to help me catalog design ideas for my new house. I don’t have my new house, but I have to get ready. So here are all my favorite kitchen pics I have saved in my archive. I love the chairs in the above pic and I love upholstered benches in kitchens. I also love the idea of using two mini chandeliers as pendants.

I love the pendants in this pic.

I love the corner bench in this kitchen.

The neutral tones in this kitchen are soothing. I also love the wall lamps above the shelving on the right.

This window seating is divine. I love the industrial look of the lighting in this kitchen.

The shelving with chicken wire is fabulous. I really want to do this is my kitchen!!

The open shelving in this kitchen is something I always seem drawn to. I just wonder about resale value. Hmmm?

This is one of my favorite kitchens of all! I love the industrial pendants and the gray cabinets with white dishes are fabulous. This is my ideal kitchen, so many ideas here.

Again a corner bench is great! I love the rustic floor in this kitchen too.

Fabulous bar stools!!

These two pics are another kitchen I have always loved. This is classic perfection. The curtains are so cottage chic, and the wing chairs are great (maybe not practical in white but beautiful). I love the box-pleat shades as pendants.

I love the shelving in this kitchen, such a great way to display all my beautiful dishes and accessories.

I always wonder what to do with the space above the cabinets. I love this idea of using large baskets. Having all the same baskets creates a restful clean look, and they are great for storage of items you don’t use a lot.

I’m not totally sold on this idea. It could turn out a little tacky is not done right. However, the picture of the dark table with blue chairs really does look great.

This is a very practical kitchen for me to recreate. I love the pots hanging on this wall. The lighting in this kitchen is so vintage chic. I love all the white as well!

Could Less be More?

5 Jan

I have found myself struggling with what to hang over my bed. I just can’t seem to find something I think works. I have a curved headboard and I don’t like squared frames above that shape for some reason (don’t know why, I just don’t). So I came cross the picture above while blog surfing and read the caption. It was perfect! I think I kinda feel the same way. Maybe I don’t need anything above the bed. You know that feeling you get when you walk into an empty room with freshly painted walls, I like that feeling like the designer said above. So I think (for my new house) I will not put anything above the bed and see is simplicity wins out.

It was quite coincidental that I found this picture yesterday in House Beautiful and mentioned I liked the “no art above the bed” thing.

House Beautiful starts out 2010 right!

5 Jan

I must say, House Beautiful “The Makeover Issue” of 2010 has some of the most inspiring decor images I have seen in a while. I have been scouring my favorite blogs and magazines for new inspiration (more than usual, anyway) because we are looking for a house and I already have the decorating itch! I have all these ideas and no rooms to put them in yet. I am just glad I have my blog to put all my ideas for now, starting with these! I love the retro chairs with this rustic table. The pink dishes add the perfect touch.

This bathroom is simply perfection. Not a lot of fuss, just relaxing colors and textures.

Ok, a perfect bedroom I must say! The ruffled duvet, the antique rug, the cane chair with feather cushion. It is like they read my mind! I even like how they didn’t place any art above the bed. It feels so clean and simple.

The contrast of the dark floors and white cabinets pop in this kitchen. I love the marble countertops (I want!). Light, airy, and classic.
