Thanks for the Mention!

31 Dec

A big thanks to Marla from “Keeping up with Stella” for selecting my pillows as one of her favorite things she purchased on Etsy this year!! I really love to here that someone loves my designs and it makes my hard work on my pillows so worth it!

A New Year, A New Me (Hopefully)

31 Dec

My New Years Resolutions (Here we go again!):

I want to not just loose weight, but change my eating habits to things that will promote health and well-being! (Click here for a great blog about eating health and dieting)

I am training for a 10K, so that should help with my exercise resolution.

(Yep I’ll be in that crowd this year if I like it or not)

and I want to exercise my brain by reading more.

I don’t want to make any more resolutions because I simply won’t do them. So here is to wishing you guys a happy new year and to hoping we all stick to our resolutions this year. Change is hard, but it can be done! (Here’s an interesting article on keeping New Year’s Resolutions)

Favorites of 2009!

29 Dec

I can’t believe the year is almost over. It seems like yesterday I started this blog in hopes to inspire people. In turn I have been so very inspired myself! I wanted to share some of my favorite images from my first year of blogging, 2009. 2009 has seen the return to femininity in design. We aren’t afraid of pink anymore! Flirty details were what is was all about. Eclectic, boho design ruled with no rules at all. I have been asked several times this year what the trends are now, what colors people are using, etc… and my answer is almost always “anything goes”. So to the year of “anything goes” I salute you with these beautiful pictures. As we head into the new year, I can’t wait to see how the trends change and what they come up with next!

Downtown Chic: A Book Review

22 Dec

A fabulous design book (for designers and “wanna be’s” alike), Downtown Chic is a wonderfully inspirational book full of beautiful pictures, as well as a practical guide to the “ups and downs” of renovation, vintage shopping, and architecture. Couple, Robert and Cortney Novogratz start with the tale of their first renovation of a town house in Chelsea, and share how this project lead to a passion and career in architecture and redesign. Their experience is priceless and they share it with us! I love how the practical tips shared in this book, break down the barriers that architects and designers have built to keep the passionate yet common man out. There are tips on hiring contractors, finding great vintage decor, hanging collections of wall-art, and turning negatives into positives (my favorite tip guide). This is a must read for any design-buff out there who wants to be inspired and motivated to complete projects (maybe a New Year’s Resolution) with vintage flair. Below I have shared just a couple of the great pictures (I am not going to ruin the book for you though) this book is filled with.

This pictures (above) is so amazing! The mirror is breathtaking. You’ll never guess where Robert and Cortney picked it up, the Biltmore Hotel. A little piece of Biltmore style right in your home. That is my dream!

More Holiday Cheer via Polished Cotton

5 Dec

I love finding new blogs to be inspired by and I just found a great one I just had to share. Polished Cotton, a fairly new blog and brand new to me, had some amazing beautiful Christmas decor ideas! This “all white” room above with its glowing Christmas Tree is breathe taking. I love creamy, dreamy neutrals, especially on dark winter days. It is so bright and cheerful.

I love the vintage appeal of the above picture. The woodland tree, the vintage chic horses, and the old window combine to make a simply perfect look.

First, I love paperwhites! I also love the mix of green and white. It is such an natural, earthy color palette that never looses.

That hutch is  simply to die for. The back painted robin’s egg blue, with white china on natural wood shelves is sheer perfection. The old filigree window above makes me green with envy. I love how they hung the coffee mugs! Again the paperwhites are so pleasing. Everything about this room is pleasing!

Hope you go visit Polished Cotton, and check out the amazing inspiration to be had there.

What is Inspiring Me to Keep Writing?

4 Dec

So, I was reading the sometimes funny, sometimes weird, and sometimes great “search query list” (the words or phrases people search for in Google) that have lead people to click on my blog. Like I said, sometimes the “searches” are really funny and sometimes they are really, umm, weird. However, sometimes someone out there has searched for something I just know they found the answer to on my blog and this inspires me. Everytime I read a “search query” that I know I have written about, shared great pics about, or something of that sort, I think they must have read that post and were really inspired. So to my readers, YOU are inspiring me to keep writing. Just letting you know.
